Mayor of Truro:

Brian Arzani

Brian spent the first 5 years of his life in Hawaii. Then his family moved to Connecticut. In 1978 Brian and his family moved to De Soto, Iowa, but first they came to Truro to live for about 7 months. While in Truro, Brian was able to visit his Great Grandparents and fell in love with Truro. He remembers his Great Grandparents home filled with wonderful smells of scrambled eggs and bacon. He knew that small town Truro would be a great place to live and raise his family. Brian’s family includes his high school sweet-heart Melony. Brian and Melony have 4 great kids. Marie (15), Sal (12), Dante (10) and Antonio (9).

Brian was appointed Mayor of Truro his first term and Brian knows that he can make a difference as Mayor of Truro. The Mayor works with the city council to help keep the laws of the city, budget proactively and communicate respectively with the different council members. The Mayor will also help maintain a balance and support the respective departments of the city’s Water Works department, Sewer department, Fire department, Betterment committee and other such committees. Brian’s goal as Mayor of Truro is to stay fiscally responsible for the residents of Truro. People are empowered to work together to create a vision, to be patient and to allow people to use their wisdom   and talents to help the community move forward.

Brian would like to create a vision and remind the Truro residents that by proactive communication and exploring options, Truro could very well have business’s which could employ 10-25 people to help Truro grow. By growing, Truro’s yearly festival would be more than what it is today.

Then people will say: Truro is “The best small town in the State of Iowa”.

City Clerk:

Heidi Burhans

Heidi grew up in the country between Truro and St. Charles. She joined the Truro city staff in February of 2009. Heidi likes being the city clerk of Truro, because she wanted to give back to the town that she holds dear. Heidi works with the city council by helping build a monthly agenda. She knows that the city clerk helps make things happen.

Heidi has lots of ideas on how to help make Truro a place for family involvement.  Heidi would like to see a community center “Social Buzz Club” to be open year round for different age groups. An adult social gathering place that could offer programs to the public like a “Culinary Historians Club”. This is a fascinating program in which people meet once a month, have guest speakers and involve people to get together to bake, and share some favorite foods. The younger generation would use the community center as a gathering place for roller bladeing, roller skating and ice skating. The even younger kids would have a place to gather for a variety of activities for their age groups.

Heidi also sees herself and Abby Mease as “Law Dogs”. Heidi would like to define this as one way to keep the city of Truro safe for the city residents. By living and working in Truro, you get to know people and you recognize who lives here and who is passing through. That way in case there is potential for alarm you know who to contact or even who to help out.

City Council Member:

Abbey Mease

Abbey grew up in New Virginia Iowa. Abbey and Jim were married in 1999. They both wanted to settle in Truro, not only because Jim’s family is in Truro, but Truro is a great place to live and raise a family. Abbey and Jim have 2 children. Abbey is not only involved with her children’s activities, but is on the Betterment committee, the Truro Fire and Rescue Association and Abbey also loves to watch sports.

Abbey chose to run for city council because she knows Truro has potential to be more than a town to be criticized by outsiders. Abbey likes to be involved with the younger generation of Truro and she feels that by being on the city council, she can be a spokesperson for the Truro residents. She wants to listen to the different needs and concerns and to work toward growing Truro. This will entice people to want to move here.

Abbey knows that the city council is a team and it will take a while for changes to take place. There are lots of different options and everyone needs to share their vision to make Truro a “Great Place to Live and Raise a Family”.

City Council Member:

Bobbie Finley

Bobbie grew up in Murray and graduated from Murray High School. Bobbie loves sports and was involved in softball, cheerleading, basketball and volleyball in high school and most of her adult life. Bobbie attended Cosmetology school in 1997 and graduated in 1998. Bobbie met Rick in 1989 and she moved to Truro that same year. Bobbie and Rick have 3 kids, 2 boys and 1 girl.

Bobbie chose to run for city council because she would like to help decide what is best for the community and to listen to the resident’s of Truro. Bobbie is open to new ideas and opinions. She works well with others, is level headed and reasonable.

Bobbie knows that there is always work to be done in and around the Truro area, such as updating the sewer system and the road repairs due to the ever changing weather conditions. Bobbie would like to help better the community by bringing businesses back to Truro so more jobs can be created.
To Bobbie Truro is defiantly home.

City Council Member:

Karl Kort

Karl grew up in Northern Iowa, by Webster City. Shortly after he graduated from high school, he enlisted in the Navy. After the Navy he and Ruthanne were married. They have been married for 42 years. They started their married life in the Des Moines area and decided a few years ago that they wanted to get out of the big city, and so they moved to Truro.

Karl chose to run for city council after he had attended some of the council meetings. Karl decided he would like to be a part of the council and wanted to help the city by running for city council. He knows that Truro can be more than just a bedroom town, especially with the potential for the many empty buildings on Main Street. This could make Truro thrive again.

Even though the city council is made up of 5 people, it takes many people helping each other for the town to become industrious. Everyone has ideas on what improvements for the betterment of Truro and its residents are. Truro has a great school system and there are several committee organizations around Truro. These committees could come to the council meetings and bring in a report from their respective committee members and share this information with the city council so more people know what’s going on in the area. It takes lots of communication and people to help keep Truro alive.

City Council Member:

Sarah Darst

Sarah grew up in Martensdale. Her family moved to Truro when she was in 4th Grade. Sarah has been in the Truro area ever since then. In Sarah’s sophomore year at Interstate 35 High School she me Chet. After Sarah graduated from high school, she went to college. Chet and Sarah then got back together a short time later and they were then married. Chet and Sarah have 2 small children. Because of Sarah’s love of kids, she decided to start a day-care which she has run for the last 5 years.

Sarah decieded to run for the city council because she sees herself as a communicator and likes to get things solved. Sarah wants to help the community by stepping up and getting involved. She would like to see more community involvement by having a town block party so the residents of Truro can meet other town’s people and the city council members. Youth groups could meet each other, book clubs could be established and bike trails could be made. The empty buildings on Main Street could be employing businesses.

Sarah has a passion for bringing people together. Truro should be seen as a family town and the people of Truro could make a difference by being involved and working together. That’s why we’re here. By staying involved with the city you get to know more people and more people make a difference.

Tammy would like to see the Truro residents continue to be excited about living in Truro, by taking pride in their homes and yards so Truro will continue to be a great place to live.  Then Truro residents can say “I’m from Truro” and be proud to say it.

Tammy knows that all of the city council members have an investment in Truro because they live here, their kids go to school here and friends are made here. Tammy is also involved in supporting the different organizations in and around Truro. Tammy has said many times that Truro is the best place to live and work.
